Preventive maintenance for marine electronics

You know that sunny Saturday when you get up, gather the family, invite friends, buy steak and drinks for a barbecue and plan a trip on your powerboat? Or perhaps you own a fishing boat, have filled it with diesel, water and ice, bought provisions, and the crew is ready and on board. At departure or out at sea, suddenly there is an ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT, a HYDRAULIC OIL LEAK, and an electronic device freezes with NOTHING THAT WILL MAKE IT TURN ON. An UNEXPECTED PROBLEM ruins your outing or fishing trip.

An unexpected failure can cause downtime and emergency service costs. Some conditions can be identified during planned inspections; others require diagnosis when they arise, even with maintenance up to date.

PLANNING MAINTENANCE HELPS REDUCE UNEXPECTED ISSUES

Preventive maintenance can reduce the likelihood of certain failures and identify degradation or wear. Results depend on the equipment, environment, use and work performed; it does not guarantee no performance loss, a fixed service life or prevention of every failure.

Planning helps organize inspections, parts, labour and downtime. Cost comparisons with corrective work depend on the case; preventive maintenance is not always the lowest-cost option and does not eliminate unexpected expenses.

Define inspections and replacements according to manufacturer instructions, observed conditions and the applicable maintenance plan. Record symptoms, work performed and checks to support system monitoring.

Unexpected failures can still occur. Maintain alternative navigation and communication methods, understand equipment limits and check conditions before departure.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT IS ALSO PART OF PLANNING

Wonder BOAT works with consulting, installation, diagnosis, maintenance and operating guidance for marine electronics. Define the service scope and verification criteria to support vessel operation and the user's understanding of the system.
